All Signed Up and Ready to Go!

Book Blogger Convention

Well - I have jumped into the BEA and Book BloggerCon pool and signed up for the BloggerCon! I was excited to hear that all this action would be taking place in my hometown of NYC but worried about what I would do there, would I know anyone, etc. But I have been following the BloggerCon blog tour and reading all the tips from the book blogging pros that attended last year and they have reassured me that I need not fear BEA!

I look forward to welcoming everyone to the Big Apple for the conventions and since everyone has been so generous in sharing their tips and tricks for navigating the convention, I would like to share some NYC info and tips. Check out my list of favorite places to read in NYC that I put together for the NY Challenge hosted by Jill at Fizzy Thoughts. As we get closer, I will post other info such as a list of good but cheap eats in the city - let me know if there is something in particular you would like to know more about!

See you all in May!

  1. I so wish I could go this year. Maybe I'll save up some money and be able to go next year! Have fun!

  2. Despite also living in NYC, I haven't registered yet, for two reasons:

    1) I'm kind of intimidated, since I only started book blogging last month and so many of these people are blogging professionals
    and
    2) I may be attending the graduation weekend at my alma mater

It does sound really fun and like a great way to meet bloggers that you admire in person! I'm at least looking forward to seeing everyone's recaps of the presentations/events at least :)

  3. BookWanderer - I totally understand #1 - felt the same way. But then I figured its still 2.5 mos off so I will be more experienced by then:) I wouldn't go if I also had to travel to it but I figured with in in the city, I might as well give it a shot.

Let me know if your plans change and you think you can make it! I think all the NYC lbook bloggers need to connect!

  4. I'm trying to go to this but we might have child care issues that will prevent it. I'm registered but still working on the details!!

  5. It was interesting to read about the Book Blogger Con. I remember hearing about it last year. It’s wonderful to see book bloggers welcome at the BEA. That’s good that you will share your inside knowledge of NYC to help others acclimate.

I enjoyed your list of places to read in NYC – I grew up reading on buses and in Central Park. Another good spot is behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art – the pyramid glass reflects the sun and keeps you warm, but bring sun block.

As for new bloggers like bookwanderer – don’t feel intimidated. I’m an old timer, and I’ve only been blogging for 3 years. That’s how new blogging is. I went to the first book blogging panel at the Oxford Literary Festival when I was living in England 2 years ago and connected with dovegreyreader scribbles. We are still linked today even though I've moved back to the USA.

  6. sounds like you're ready to go!!! i'm still working on logistics--might be away with school on an overnight class trip. :( i'm only a hop, skip, and jump from the city so it would pain me to miss all the bookish fun!!!

  7. Nat - thanks for the heads up about comments - I have gone in and changed the settings (hopefully successfully!) I also removed work verification - if I don't get tons of spam, I will leave it that way so its even easier to leave comments - I do love comments!

  8. Aw geez, now I feel myself getting convinced! :) Thanks for the encouragement, and it's nice to hear that others didn't let feeling intimidated stop them from attending and having a blast!

  9. I hope to be at BEA for work. Didn't get to go last year (though did the two years prior) and had a fit so hopefully bosses have seen the error of their ways! My tip: Don't grab every galley you see. You look desperate and the publisher reps will not respect you. Be selective and also talk to the publisher reps. Especially Marketing. They will be the people you'll want to be in touch with. Have business cards.

  10. Glad to see you'll be attending. Maybe we'll get a chance to meet at BEA, as I won't be at the blogger con. I'm looking forward to a list of cheap eats. That'll come in handy, I'm sure.

  11. I'm stoked you'll be at the blogger con! Can't wait to meet you! :)

I like really good Italian that's not too expensive. And a good burger place, too! Can you add that to your list? ;)
