In the fall, some friends and I took a walking tour of Greenwich Village and, although I had seen much of what was on the tour over the years I have lived here, Grove Court was a surprise. This cul-de-sac has a line of federal style homes set back from the street and behind a gate. You can read more about the history of the spot at the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation.

There's always something new to discover in NYC isn't there... streets we never walk down can lead to a new favorite coffeeshop!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing :) Enjoy a brisk yet sunny afternoon. I'm off to run errands followed by a nice long walk with my audiobook (The Dovekeepers).
Wow! Can you imagine what those homes cost?
ReplyDeleteI know Kathy! Apparently, they are now quite pricey and rarely available but originally they were built to house the working class from the area.
DeleteA glimpse into another world... that second shot is so evocative for me!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy! I was literally peeking through the gates to get the shot.
DeleteI love the second shot...makes the viewer feel like they're sneeking a peek. Very nice!

Oh!I would love to do this tour! My daughter lives in Brooklyn and is always wanting to plan little outings for us when we visit! I'm going to mention this to her!
ReplyDeleteSusan -the tour we took was a walking food tour of Greenwich Village http://www.foodsofny.com/. I definitely recommend it!
DeleteAlways fun to find a surprise in an area you think you know!
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I really like that second picture.
ReplyDeleteOh wow - that's so cool! I love old sections of cities. There's always so much history there.
ReplyDeleteI would love to take that walking tour.
ReplyDeleteHi Nise - it was run by Food of NY - I definitely recommend.
DeleteKathy said exactly what I was thinking - must be expensive!
ReplyDeleteI bet a walking tour would be awesome. So much history.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I'd love to do walking tour of the village someday on one of my NYC trips! The city has so much to discover.
