Mailbox Monday: May 23, 2011

Mailbox Monday is usually hosted by Marcia at the Printed Page; the meme will be doing a blog tour over the next few months - this month it is hosted by Mari from MariReads Mailbox Monday gives us a chance to feature the books that came into our homes over the past week (and of course to check out what came in to everyone else's!) It has been some time since I have done a Mailbox Monday so there is a lot in here (probably about 1 month's worth).

Purchased

A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan - for an upcoming bookclub
Love and Summer: A Novel by William Trevor - this author was recommended to me a while ago and I finally picked up one of his books
The Healing of America: A Global Quest for Better, Cheaper, and Fairer Health Care by T.R. Reid - the title is a mouthful but an important topic
The Lacemakers of Glenmara  by Heather Barbieri - I saw a lot of great reviews about this book on the blogs last year
The Empty Family: Stories by Colm Toibin - I snap up anything by this author!
Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain by Portia de Rossi -this is not a celebrity I ever took any notice of but I heard her read some passages from this book and they were so raw and I was surprised by how much I could relate (even though I struggle with a different eating disorder than she did)

Received For Review
The Girl in the Garden by Kamala Nair (from the author)
Only Mine (Hqn) by Susan Mallery (from Little Bird Publicity)
The Long Song: A Novel by Andrea Levy (from Picador)
Summer in the South: A Novel by Cathy Holton (from the author)
The Oregon Experiment by Keith Scribner (from Regal Literary)
Dreams of Joy: A Novel by Lisa See (from Library Thing Early Reviewers)

  1. Love and Summer looks like a good one for the beach...A Visit from the Goon Squad is one I read awhile ago...I had mixed feelings about it. Hope you do enjoy it.

  6. Those all look like really good books! Already looking forward to your reviews! I read Unbearable Lightness a few months ago and it was such a good book. Sad and difficult to read at times, but I thought it was a great book that anyone could read. I hope that you enjoy it!
