Children's Book Review: Hide!!! by Jeff Foxworthy

Hide!!! by Jeff Foxworthy
Hardcover 32 pages
Ages 4-8

Hide!!! by Jeff Foxworthy is a charming children's story with the added bonus of some "search and find" fun ala "Where's Waldo?"  The book centers on the childhood game of hide and seek- a gaggle of neighborhood kids head out for a game of hide and seek and on each page they look for more items - spoons, flip flops, even other kids!

There is rhyming verse throughout the book as the children move about the neighborhood on the hunt for the hidden items.  A sample below:

On a Saturday morning
Like many before
The kids were all restless.
In fact, they were bored.

It had finally stopped raining
After nearly a week
Then they had an idea,
“Let’s play hide and seek!”

The book is richly illustrated - there is a lot to look at on each page and it is all very colorful and appealing. Both my niece (2) and nephew (6) were captivated by the book - my niece liked looking at the pictures and listening to the verse while my nephew was into trying to find each item hidden in the pictures and counting them all.  This is an excellent book for families with children of multiple ages - these is something in there for everyone!

  1. This book looks really fun - thanks for sharing this! You might also enjoy a new Christmas book out by Peter John Lucking called, "Santa & The Little Teddy Bear." My four year-old daughter is absolutely enjoying it. It's a classic Christmas tale and every chapter is a bedtime story. She can't wait for Christmas now!

  4. I had no idea Jeff Foxworthy wrote a book. Sounds like my son would like looking for the "waldo" images.

  6. I like the line: "In fact they were bored." Nice review. We're beyond the picture book stage in our household, although maybe one day I'll write and illustrate one.
