Mailbox Monday: Dec 10, 2012

Mailbox Monday is a meme in which readers share what has arrived in their mailbox each week. Although I haven't done my own Mailbox Monday post at all in 2012, I never miss a tour through the mailboxes where I check out what my fellow readers have received and add some of their boxes to my TBR list.

The Chronicles of Downton Abbey: A New Era by Jessica Fellowes and Matthew Sturgis : received from Emily at Wunderkind-PR
Isn't this book gorgeous? I think it will keep many a Downton fan happy until the series returns in the US on Jan 6th. Check back for my review and giveaway!

Nothing Ever Happens at The South Pole by Stan and Jan Berenstein was a twitter win from HarperCollins Children's  I know my niece will love this book from the creators of the Berenstein Bears

The Good House by Ann Leary - This one is getting great press already and the film rights have been optioned

Saturday Night Widows by Becky Aikman  - This memoir written by a young widow chronicles the support group of young widows she created after losing her husband to cancer. I read the prologue (in the elevator after ripping the package open in my lobby) and it is off to a great start!

Mailbox Monday: Holiday Book Blogger Swap Edition

It has been a little while since I have done a Mailbox Monday post and much has come in the mail since then (I went a little crazy on the Better World Books website) but I wanted to focus today's post on my Book Blogger Holiday Swap gifts. 


This beautifully wrapped box arrived - I love the red wrapping paper - the gift looked beautiful placed on my sideboard amongst some special ornaments and next to Frosty.

Secret Santa remains anonymous . . . .

In addition to the box, I received two books - The Violets of March by Sarah Jio and The Book of Joe by Jonathan Tropper.  I have been waiting to read these two for awhile and can't wait to dive into them. 

I eventually broke down and opened the big red box to reveal . . . .

A delightful box of Ghirardelli treats! I am proud to say they have remained under wraps but I make no promises when Christmas rolls around next week!

I still have not figured out who my Secret Santa is so if you are reading this post, please reveal! I want to thank you for bringing a little holiday cheer into my home this season!

The Orphan Sister by Gwendolen Gross was a win from Chick Lit Is Not Dead

Where's My Wand?: One Boy's Magical Triumph over Alienation and Shag Carpeting by Eric Poole came for review from Anna at FSB Associates.   I love this title!

Life After Yes: A Novel by Aidan Donnelley Rowley was a bookstore purchase

The Miracle of Grace by Kate Kerrigan was sent by the author.  I recently read and reviewed the author's Ellis Island.  The book is published in the UK but not yet in the US.

Red-Robed Priestess: A Novel (The Maeve Chronicles) by Elizabeth Cunningham came unsolicited from Meryl Zegarek



You Don't Sweat Much for a Fat Girl: Observations on Life from the Shallow End of the Pool by Celia Rivenbark came from Tanya at Wunderkind PR - I started this last week on a plane and literally laughed all the way home!

It has been some time since I have done a Mailbox Monday so there is a lot in here (probably about 1 month's worth).

Love and Summer: A Novel by William Trevor - this author was recommended to me a while ago and I finally picked up one of his books
The Healing of America: A Global Quest for Better, Cheaper, and Fairer Health Care by T.R. Reid - the title is a mouthful but an important topic
The Lacemakers of Glenmara  by Heather Barbieri - I saw a lot of great reviews about this book on the blogs last year
The Empty Family: Stories by Colm Toibin - I snap up anything by this author!
Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain by Portia de Rossi -this is not a celebrity I ever took any notice of but I heard her read some passages from this book and they were so raw and I was surprised by how much I could relate (even though I struggle with a different eating disorder than she did)

I received a mix of books over the past two weeks - YA, Memoir, Travel, Fiction - I love having so much variety in my mailbox!

Bought:
The Hunger Games  and Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games)by Suzanne Collins: with all frenzy about the Mockingjay release last week, I thought it was time to finally see what it was all about

The Caliph's House: A Year in Casablanca by Tahir Shah - I heard about this book on BookNAround and was excited to be able to get it from PBS

Recipes for a Perfect Marriage by Kate Kerrigan - this author is currently living in a town in Ireland very close to where my Mom is from (Killala, Co Mayo) and her newest book (not yet out in the US) was featured in the TV Book Club which is where I discovered her
