Waiting on Wednesday: June 1, 2011

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I am waiting on:

The Wedding Writer The Wedding Writer by Susan Schneider (publishes June 7, 2011)
From Goodreads.com:

Lucky Quinn writes up weddings for one of the hottest bridal magazines. And it wasn’t easy to get there. From humble beginnings, she outsmarted her way into the center of New York’s glamorous magazine industry – making up for her background with a sharp mind, whip-thin physique, and ceaseless ambition.

Then, in one day, her life is utterly transformed; two of the magazine’s major competitors fold, and Lucky is named Editor-in-Chief, replacing the formidable, but aging Grace Ralston, who had been at the magazine’s helm from day one. Grace taught Lucky everything she knows, but now it seems that she taught her too well…

As the ripples of Lucky’s promotion spread, the intricate lives of four women begin to unfold. Felice, Your Wedding’s elegant and unshakeable Art Director is now being shaken for the first time by troubles at home. Sara, the Fashion Director, is famed for her eagle eye for fashion trends and exquisite hair. But, for all her know-how, “the Angel of Bridal” has never come close to starring in a wedding herself – she’s picked the dress, but where’s the groom? Grace, recovering in the wake of her sudden, humiliating fall from power, must learn to accept herself – and love – after a life dedicated to fulfilling other women’s dreams. And, through it all, Lucky begins to discover just how lonely the top really is.

Seems like Devil Wears Prada meets The Wedding Planner - perfect beach read!

What are you waiting on?

  1. Yes, sounds like a great summer read indeed. And the cover is so cute with the Tiffany color soles on the heels. It's all in the details :)

  2. This does sound like an excellent beach read! And, like The Devil Wears Prada, I can see this one being turned into a movie as well. Great find!

  3. sounds like a good vacation book!!

    new follower here;)

Come see what has us on pins and needles, and the giveaway that goes with it here

  4. This sounds like a great summer read! I just finished reading The Devil Wears Prada and this sounds like it would be similar. Graet find!

  5. That book looks cute! I'm waiting on my second box of BEA books - they should come today.

  6. Oh, this one does sound tempting! Thanks for sharing....

    Here's MY WOW POST

  7. The Devil Wears Prada is one of those movies that I watch over and over -- when my husband sees it on, he always says, not again...

Given that, I'm sure this book would be a winner for me...thanks for highlighting it :)

  8. Oh, this one sounds fun! I love books about wedding planners and magazines and such. Nice choice!

  9. Cute chick lit for sure.

    My WoW

  10. This sounds really cute but... the main character's name being Lucky really bugs me. It's silly and juvenile and I know it's petty of me but it's just not realistic and that bothers me. Such a small thing but it could ruin a book. Just imagine if Pansy O'Hara's name hadn't been changed to Scarlett!

This is Carin from Caroline Bookbinder (blogger won't let me stay logged in)

  11. Sometimes a good chick-lit novel is just what you need. This sounds fun. I liked the Devil Wears Prada but it's probably the only time in my life where I thought the film was better than the book! I need to add this one to my reading list.
    2 Kids and Tired Books

  12. “Devil Wears Prada meets The Wedding Planner” is a funny summary. I actually liked the movie of DWP better than the book and that’s not usually the case. I’m waiting for an ARC of Beth Kephart’s latest, You Are My Only. Supposedly it’s in the mail from her publisher. Beth writes literary YA and other genres.

  13. I mentioned your blog in my latest post! Check it out http://ashleyfictionista.blogspot.com/2011/06/awarded.html

  14. that looks like a fun book for the hammock! :-)
