Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books
Tomorrow will be the 41st running of the New York City Marathon and more than 45,000 runners will take to the streets of New York City's 5 boroughs to conquer the 26.2 mile distance. I have run NYC three times and each times the crowds made the event for me - especially when I hit the dreaded wall at Mile 20 in upper Manhattan - their cheering and encouragement spurred me to push on.
I will be out tomorrow doing my part to cheer on this year's participants because I know just how much it means. Of course, I get something out of cheering too - inspiration. As Kathrine Switzer said, "If you are losing faith in human nature, go out and watch a marathon." Good luck to all the runners!

ReplyDeleteNew follower!!!
ReplyDeleteI remember watching the NY Marathon when I was a kid and just being awed by all that energy.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I would love to even be able to run a 5k someday. I'm making baby steps, but progress is progress. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck and enjoy! Thanks for sharing the cool photo.

Congratulations on that accomplishment. Right now I am wrestling with whether or not to try a 10K, but I'm nowhere near ready for a marathon. Hope you have fun tomorrow cheering!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful accomplishment! Have fun cheering this year.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Snapshot: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2011/11/saturday-snapshot-november-5.html
I admire the runners. My nephew does the Chicago marathon. With my bad knee all I can do is a 5K charity walk!
ReplyDeleteI was once a runner and enjoyed the camaraderie and the shared joy of running. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. I admire the fact that you ran more than one. After training one year, tearing my acl then training and running a marathon the following year, I gave up. I just thought, why would I want to be that miserable again. But it's also impressive that you go out and cheer. Thanks for sharing that photo. You look great and energetic. Here's My Saturday Snapshot
ReplyDeleteThat is impressive. I've always been in awe of the Boston Marathon participants = all so disciplined (UNLIKE ME)lol
ReplyDeleteMarathon runners are crazy! But you're a good soul to go out and cheer them on. Have a great day of it!

ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I used to run and have running a half marathon on my life to-do list. The crowd is a major motivator, so glad to see you out supporting!
ReplyDeleteWow! Hats off to you! I'm impressed with anyone who can complete a marathon … especially on city streets! Thanks for sharing this awesome side of you!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing accomplishment! I was watching the women's and men's leaders running along 1st Ave. this morning. I'm in awe of anyone who does this. It must feel incredible to hear the cheering for 26 miles!
